Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture, a part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine system, can influence promotion of health and well-being, prevention of illness, and treatment of various medical conditions. Acupuncture encourages the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting needles at very precise acupuncture points.

How many treatments will I need?
Overall treatment time is dependent on many factors such as the nature of the health concern, how long it has existed, your general health, your lifestyle and how much you are willing to do to assist the healing process. Health problems usually do not appear overnight, and therefore rarely can be treated with just one visit. Traditional Chinese Medicine views each of us as a unique individual. People with the same concern will most likely receive an entirely different treatment and will respond to it differently.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?
Patients are surprised that most of the time, they do not feel anything as the needles are inserted. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine and only as thick as a strand of hair. People experience acupuncture differently, some people often say they feel energized after treatment, while others feel completely relaxed and even fall asleep during treatment.

Does Acupuncture Really Work?
Yes. In the past 5,000 years, more people have been successfully treated with acupuncture than with all other health modalities combined. Today acupuncture is practiced widely in Asia, the Soviet Union, and in Europe. It is now being used more and more in America.

Do I have to Believe in Acupuncture for it to Work?
No. Acupuncture is used successfully on cats, dogs, horses and other animals. These animal patients do not “believe” in the process that helps them get better. A positive attitude toward wellness may reinforce the effects of the treatment received, just as a negative attitude may hinder the effects of acupuncture or any other treatment.

Is Acupuncture Covered by my Health Insurance?
Acupuncture treatment is covered by some health insurance policies and flexible spending account plans. Call your carrier to determine your coverage. We do not process claims at Oriental Healing Arts Clinic but will provide you with the necessary documentation to help you process your claim.
